A FREE WAY TO HELP OUR NON-PROFIT PUBLIC BUS SYSTEM

Did you know that COAST RTA, our public bus system, is non-profit? And that so many people in our communities depend on COAST to get them to work, doctor appts., etc.?

There is an absolutely painless way for you to really help COAST by participating in the FOOD LION SHOP & SHARE program.

Food Lion offers MVP Cards to all customers. These cards allow the customers to receive savings on certain items in the store.

Additionally, the cards can be tied to a non-profit agency as a fundraising effort. If the customer decides to link their MVP card with Coast RTA, each time that customer shops at Food Lion and uses that MVP card, a portion of the total grocery purchase will be donated to Coast. At the end of each quarter, Food Lion will divide the funds proportionally among all the Lion Shop & Share organizations (including educational, religious, and civic organizations) depending on their accumulated sales. Coast RTA is eligible to receive up to $350.00 per quarter ($1,400.00/year).

AND THE BEST PART - The money received from this program will be used as a form of local match. This "match" will be used to access the grant funding from the state and federal government. (Every little bit of local match helps!)

DEAR LOCAL BUSINESSES,

A GREAT WAY FOR YOU TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORTS YOU ...

North Myrtle Beach High School has launched a Renaissance Program that they have titled “Best of the Best”. Renaissance programs inspire the same acceptance, appreciation and excitement for academics that is traditionally reserved for athletics. Renaissance programs aim to increase student performance and teacher enthusiasm, and to raise the level of community participation in schools.Students benefit from the program because it raises the profile of academics and makes it cool to do well in school.

Please read the following e-mail and contact Mr. Horton to learn more and be a part of this wonderful program for our young people.

Dear Chief Supporters,

I wanted to start off by thanking you for showing interest in supporting our Renaissance program “Best of the Best” at North Myrtle Beach High School. Your attendance at Monday night’s event was encouraging to the staff here at North Myrtle Beach High School. Through your support, we hope to show the students at NMBHS that they have a community encouraging them to reach their full potential and transform the school into one of the premier learning facilities of the nation.

Below I have outlined the help we need for this first quarter. Please take a moment to read through the various options you have to help make this program grow. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to e-mail me at chorton@horrycountyschools.net or call me on my personal cell-phone: 446-8616.

Card Discounts
The students receive their Renaissance cards during the first week on November. We hope to provide them a list of businesses that offer discounts when they bring in their student id and Renaissance card (the student must have both cards to receive the discount). If your business wishes to provide a discount for the card program, please e-mail your business name and the discount your business is willing to supply. Remember that there are two cards that offer discounts. It would be great if you could offer our Gold card members a higher discount and a lesser one to our Blue card members. Please have this information to me by October 23rd.

Items to Raffle
We will begin raffling items every week starting in November. If your business would like to donate an item to be raffled, please bring the item by the school anytime during the month of November. Speak to Mrs. Wainscott in the front office. Please have all items to the school by the first week in November. If getting to the school is a hassle, please contact me and I can have a teacher swing by and pick up the item. We are allowing you to use your discretion to choose the items to donate. Just keep in mind that these are high school students.

Money Donation
If you would like to supply a monetary donation to the program, please drop off a check to North Myrtle Beach High School by October 23rd. The donations will be used to pay for the cost of taking the students who have won the cards to their first reward ceremony.

Guest Speaker
If you would like to be a guest speaker at the high school, please contact Mrs. McCray at kmccray@horrycountyschools.net. She is in charge of the guest speaker program.

Thank you again for all of your help and support. This program would not be able to succeed without your help.
