COMMUNITY
COALITION OF LITTLE RIVER (CCLR)
WHO
WE ARE
CCLR
is a volunteer citizens group that operates
solely on donated time and resources from area residents. It is
nonprofit, nonsectarian and nonpolitical. It promotes communication
by maintaining a locally managed website and an email network that serves Little River and the surrounding areas. CCLR
organizes projects that have a positive influence in the community
and works with local government to influence positive change.
BACKGROUND
CCLR
was founded in 2004 when area residents came together on an issue
(zoning height limits) that affected the “village character" of
Little River, the oldest village in Horry County, dating back to the
early 18th century. As a result of residents coming together over one
issue, the value of and need for an ongoing information network
within the Little River area was recognized and CCLR became
incorporated in 2006. CCLR further developed into an organization
that is active in a variety of community initiatives.
CCLR INITIATIVES
SCDOT
ADOPT - A - HIGHWAY PROGRAM:
CCLR
“adopted” Hwy 17 from Baker Street to Hwy 90 and conducts
quarterly litter pickups. Since the first pickup in July 2007, over 3000 pounds of litter have been removed and taken to the Recycling
Center.
CCLR

Updated
regularly, the website is a source of information about happenings in
the community. Emails are sent to anyone requesting to be on the email list whenever there is information of local interest to share.
COMMUNITY
FORUMS:
CCLR
organizes local Community Forums. Recent Forums provided
unprecedented opportunity for open communication between residents
and their elected representatives from the State and County levels.
Future Forums are planned and topics will be chosen based upon
community interest.
HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS COMMUNITY MEETING:
Originating
in 2005 as "HURRICANES HAPPEN", this annual hurricane preparedness program features WPDE Chief Meteorologist Ed
Piotrowski and Horry County Director of Emergency Management Randy
Webster and is designed specifically for residents and businesses of the North Strand. In recent years, CCLR has teamed with local Chambers of Commerce, Horry County Department of Emergency Management, and WPDE to bring this free program of important information to the community.

historical knowlege or property and connect them with appropriate
people/agencies/etc. to promote and facilitate the preservation of
local history.
OPERATION

SUMMARY
CCLR
has evolved into an organization of many initiatives. Hours of time
and considerable effort by many folks working as volunteers on
project committees and attending County Government meetings has seen
the CCLR become a recognized source of information and communication
within the community and beyond.
